As you will recall, we sent you a community e-mail on October 17, 2013 in which we expressed our concern about proposed changes to the OT and PT regulations that we thought were potentially harmful to schools. Specifically, we were concerned about the limitation on the ordering of services in that only a doctor would be able to order services, not licensed practitioners of the healing arts. We asked you to consider submitting comments in opposition to this proposed limitation. We are so appreciative that many of you did submit written comment.
As a result of our collective efforts, the Department of Health and Human Service removed the proposed language that would have restricted referrals to only doctors. School districts may continue to utilize licensed practitioners of the healing arts operating within their scope of practice under Maine State law to order OT and PT services.
