MSB will be conducting a server upgrade during the evening of Thursday, April 30th. This upgrade will move the location of the actual web application to a new server with improved performance. This upgrade will have no impact on data, but it may impact your ability to access our systems for a short period of time.
Here’s why that’s a possibility. Although you will continue to use the same web address (URL) you always have, that URL will point to a new server address on the internet. Computers know which addresses to connect to thanks to “DNS records”. Many internet service providers (ISPs) store these DNS records, sometimes up to 72 hours before checking for a fresh set of DNS records. That means that even though our new server will be active Thursday evening, your ISP might continue to point you toward our old server for up to three days after the switch. The old server will continue to run and will be completely accessible. You should have no problem continuing to access the old server until your ISP updates its DNS records and starts pointing you to our new server.
All that is to say that you should not experience any problems accessing our applications. There are, however, parts of this process that are outside our control. While we believe you should not experience any downtime, it is possible. The reason we have chosen Thursday evening for this upgrade is so our Customer Care team will be available on Friday if you need assistance. Making the change on Thursday should also provide enough time for most ISPs to refresh their DNS records by Monday.
