School-Based Claiming issued a notification on August 12, 2015 of a MassHealth bulletin that will be published soon with information regarding expansion of the School-Based Medicaid Program. Effective October 1, 2015, school districts may begin to seek reimbursement for applied behavior analysis (ABA) services provided to treat individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Please view the notification here.
For Autism services, qualified staff include Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) and Board Certified Assistant Behavioral Analyst (BCaBA) as certified by the Behavioral Analyst Certification Board (BACB) based in Littleton, CO pursuant to 262 CMR 10.02. While procedure codes for these new service options have not yet been published, School-Based Claiming sent the August 12 notification to provide time for school districts to add the qualified staff providing Autism services in their quarterly Random Moment Time Study Participant list. The participant lists for the time study quarter beginning October 1st are due to be completed in the RMTS system by September 4, 2015.
MSB will be adding the appropriate service provider types and procedure codes to Lumea™ (once published). We will also be contacting you directly in the weeks to come to address any questions you may have to help your school district prepare for this transition. If you have any questions, please contact your Program Specialist.
