Maine – 2017 DoE Forms Updates are Live!

Effective August 1st, the Maine Department of Education has updated 11 Special Education
forms. All updated forms can be found in your Adori account.

Minor changes were made to nine Special Education forms:

  • Advance Written Notice
  • Determination of Adverse Effect
  • Excusal when area IS discussed
  • Excusal when area IS NOT discussed
  • Parental Consent for Evaluation
  • Parental Consent to Invite Other Agencies
  • Speech or Language Impairment Eligibility
  • Summary of Performance
  • Written Notice

Two other forms underwent significant changes by the DoE:

  • IEP
    • In addition to wording and order changes throughout, there were a number of
      notable updates

      • CDS and K-12 now have their own goals sections and guidance with
        respect to printing and completion
      • Functional and Developmental Goal Types have been merged to create
        Functional/Developmental on the printed form
    • Specific Learning Disability
      • In addition to wording and order changes, there were several areas added to
        address policy updates
      • The decision-making chart located prior to the conclusions has been removed
and replaced with written guidance throughout the document

For the nine forms with minor formatting changes, and the Specific Learning Disability form,
your process will be no different than before the changes. We have retired the older version
and removed it from the list. You will still be able to re-print the older version from an
archive in the system if you have been in the practice of archiving these forms.

For the IEP, we have programmed the system to look at the IEP start date when producing an
editable or printable version of the form. If the IEP is being amended after August 1, 2017,
but the IEP has a start date prior to August 1, 2017, the amendment will publish on the old
IEP format per DoE requirements. In these cases, users may find it helpful to work from the
editable version of the IEP rather than the work space. We have updated the work space to
reflect new language. Any archived IEP will print as it was when archived.

When cloning an IEP, the majority of the work spaces will remain the same at present, but
the data will publish to the new areas. This is particularly important for Functional and
Developmental areas. Users will need to carefully review all IEP fields to ensure accuracy
and completeness. They may find the editable version of the IEP particularly helpful for this
process.

We will be making a pre-recorded webinar available on these changes during the week of August 7th, and would encourage you to provide this link to your Adori users. In addition to the pre-recorded webinar, you can also contact your district Program Specialist, Patricia Tetreau, or Jason Black, to schedule an Adori refresher or any other fall start-up training your district might need!

Enjoy the rest of your summer and we will see you in the fall!
